Despite its colonial facade this low-rise luxury five star hotel is a mere few years old. Park Hyatt Saigon has a corner block near the city's central Lam Son Square. A great location for exploring Ho Chi Minh City and for escaping back to when the moan of motor bikes and the pace of the city gets too much - and it will.
As you'd expect with a Park Hyatt this hotel delivers comfort, style and space. The service is good too. The danger with all modern five style, big brand hotels is that you are swathed in air-con luxury and could be anywhere in the world - 'its Saturday it must be Saigon'. Except that this hotel does pay homage to its location with black and white photos of Old Saigon on the walls and some subtle art deco-style detailing.
Look out for exciting new room refurbishments at the end of this 2011 that will fill the rooms with antique-style furniture and give them a real 'spirit of place'.
